The San Jos Syro Malabar Catholic Church was established as a mass centre under the Diocese of Kalyan in August 1988. Its purpose was to preserve the spiritual and religious needs of the Syro Malabar Catholic Community in Wagle Industrial Estate. The mass centre had its humble beginnings with conducting Sunday mass and sacraments in St. Lawrence Church, D'souzawadi.

    The community was officially started with 68 registered families in August 1988 with Fr. Thomas Kalapura MST as its first parish priest.  Today as a full fledged parish it has grown to over 200 families in 12 family units. This parish was dedicated to "St. Joseph - the worker" as majority of its then congregants were employees in the Wagle Industrial area.

    The construction of current church building began under the leadership of Fr. Thomas Kalapura MST . On 18 October 1992, Late Mar Paul Chittilapily, the first bishop of Diocese of Kalyan consecrated the current church building as San Jos Centre. On April 2006, the San Jos Centre was declared as a full fledged parish.The parish building was later renovated and given a "facelift" under the supervision of Fr. Bipin C in October 2018. Under his supervision the new parish building was also renovated and blessed in 24th January 2020.The work for reinforcement of the parish hall and completion of parish building renovation were accomplished under Fr. Shinto V.  The parish hall is named after the first bishop of Kalyan Diocese - Mar Paul Chittilapily and blessed by Rev. Thomas Elavanal on 24th December 2021.

  The convent was started by reverend sisters of Adoration of Blessed Sacrament on 18 June 1992 at ARADHANA BHAVAN with Sr. Liberatha(SABS) as the first Mother Superior.The prayerful support of sisters helps the parish in its daily spiritual endeavors. 

    As its patron saint "St Joseph - the worker" ,  the congregants of San Jos Church strive to discern the will of the Lord and its fulfillment in their lives.
